Thursday 24th August – bike **** Felixstowe to Levington – sunny periods – 13 miles :)

The original plan today was to go to Bradfield for a longboard cruise on the Stour with Neil Hurrell but the wind didn’t play ball :( So after we had had a walk along the prom Mag and I packed a salad and headed out on the bikes! We biked along the busy prom, then through the docks with loads of lorries whizzing past, very scary! We crossed the electric gate level crossing having to wait for a long train leaving the port:) Up the track coming out on the Trimley Marshes lane and on to the River Orwell where Electricity workmen are preparing to take a cable across the river we think? We saw the Red Arrows fly away from the Clacton Air Show :) Then up onto the river path, past the bird hides to the dead tree creek where we stopped for our picnic. The wind had really picked up and with the tide in it was probably sailable on big freeride kit, that’s sods law for you, as soon as you commit to a bike ride the wind blows! I checked the Landguard wind stats when I got home and the wind did pick up for a couple of hours between 12 and 2! Refreshed from a top salad and a bit chilly sitting in the full breeze we continued around the creek to the many blackberry bushes and soon collected a couple of tubs, we have never seen so many:) There was a couple of horses in the river but they had sadly gone by the time we passed close by. We turned right at Loompit lake and followed our favourite tree lined path back to Felixstowe, collecting apples from a laden tree on waste ground on the way :) So, a nice 13-mile ride and we did get to see some sunshine too:)
Back at home Jay had to rescue a huge beautiful green Privat Hawk Moth Caterpillar from the cats!!!
